RESPOSE TO WORDS:
THE FAULT LIES NOT,IN OUR GOVERNMENT,BUT IN OURSELVES.LOOK INWARD. CAN I ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE. HAVE THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN, AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.
WE HAVE ALLOWED OURSELVES TO LIVE IN THIS SHADOW. WE ARE ALL PLAYERS AND VOYEURS IN THE STUPIDITY WE CALL LIVING WELL. W'VE GROWN TOO FAT ON GREED, DRIVEN BY EGO AND GRANDIOSITY.
IT WONT STOP UNTIL WE STOP OURSELVES. UNTIL THAT HAPPENS I'LL JUST KEEP ON LAUGHING

This is a response to your January blogs to date (1.8.09). I sense a desparation in some of the comments and pessimism in others. In my experience decisions are often made on the basis of vanity, fear, and power. Often these decisions are rationalized by our leaders with a veneer of patriotism and/or nationalism both of which a wise man once said is the last refuge of scoundrels. I do not share the belief that finding good leaders is the answer. It is helpful but to rely on persons rather than institutions and law is a huge error. Men can change quickly and in shadow but laws and institutions such as our constitution and court system require more time and assuming a good press, more transparency. So my priorities are family first, then the local, national and global obligations, in that order and the key to understanding and supporting or opposing the latter two depends on how we get the facts. Our news organizations have become profit centers of an entertainment industry. A contest for listeners or readers always caters to the tawdry aspect of human life but does not inform us to enable us to make good decisions. News readers (which the BBC properly calls them)do not inform except superficially. Until we demand the presentation of facts and the background to understand them we shall alway wallow in the swamps of indecision and worse, wrong decisions. The facts we now get are colored by the purveyor as part of a political position. We should know that position so we can properly evaluate the arguments advanced. What is desparately needed in our society is an interpreter of facts against the historical background needed to understand them. To merely choose each side of the political spectrum to present their version of the facts only exasperates the problem which is often resolved by the personality of the speaker. Almost all of the problems detailed in your blogs can be understood and resolved it we were given unbiased views of the facts. A well trained, free and vigorous press is an absolutely essential to first understanding and then resolving our problems. It is the first step, one that we can, as a people demand and achieve. It is the most important institution for a democracy and we have let it collapse and drift into triviality.

Good post. Sometimes I wish we were in simpler times. When information took days to reach the masses. I think people would be more happier then.
